The best thing I found about this diet was that it focuses on LONG-TERM and SUSTAINED WEIGHT LOSS. But don’t think that means you’re going to be waiting around for months to see a difference, because the average weight loss seen by most users is around 10% of body weight each 30 days. And scientific research would certainly support this rate of weight loss. Any quicker and you’re going to be losing water rather than true fat, and you’ll also be sending your body into ‘starvation’ mode. When your body sets into this salvaging state, it thinks that it needs to conserve as much energy as it can, and releases loads of insulin to store any calories you ingest (rather than burning them that day for fuel). It also tells your muscle mass to break down and provide an alternative source of energy – and we all know that we need a decent muscle mass to keep our baseline metabolism up!

The Diet Solution – ‘How It Works’

There are 3 key steps that have to be followed in order to achieve your ideal weight:

* Eating in accordance with metabolic type
* Staying within ideal caloric ranges
* Consuming a variety of high quality food

In order to determine metabolic type, users undertake a series of questions. Dieters are then categorized as ‘protein’, ‘carb’ or ‘mixed’ type. Each type requires ideal amounts and varieties of healthy proteins, carbohydrates and fats. Detailed meal plans are provided for each type.

It is recommended to keep a food journal, which will help you identify which foods and meals make you feel good and satisfied and which don’t, so that yo can fine-tune your diet. I found this especially helpful, and learnt a huge amount about my own eating patterns, and what did or didn’t work for me.

Recommended Foods

Ideal foods for The Diet Solution will vary depending on your own metabolic type.

Some of the recommended foods include: organic meat and poultry, organic eggs, fish, raw dairy products, rw nuts and seeds, fruit, vegetables, baked sweet potatoes, coconut oil, butter, olive oil, flaxseed, avocado, sprouted seeds, stevia, raw chocolate.

A supplement of omega 3 oil such as salmon, cod liver, krill or flaxseed is strongly encouraged.

Breakfast

2 poached eggs

1 cup sautéed spinach

1 pear

Morning Snack

2 Tablespoons almond butter

1 green apple

Celery sticks

Lunch

4 ounces grilled chicken

Salad with romaine, tomato, cucumber

1 cup asparagus

2 teaspoons olive oil

Apple cider vinegar

Afternoon Snack
1 ounce raw walnuts

6 baby carrots

½ cup blueberries

Dinner

4 oz salmon

1 cup steamed broccoli

Green salad

The Diet Solution Exercise Recommendations

De Los Rios recommends a specifically designed exercise program that includes components of strength and cardiovascular exercise, including interval training.
